Panic and pronouncements of Sony's failure spread through the Internet when the company posted a $2 billion operating loss yesterday for the fiscal year 2006. While the anxiety is understandable, it may be more of an overreaction than a sign of Sony's impending demise.
As blue-laser pick-up heads (PUHs) for use in the PlayStation 3 (PS3) are expected to increase in supply and decrease in price, the production cost of the game console could be reduced by as much as US$100, according to Taiwan-based makers of game consoles and components.

Speaking to Game Informer magazine, Gabe Newell said that Sony should scrap plans the PS3 and develop an entirely new system. "The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted," said Newell. [via 1UP]
